XINXIAN INN

Inspired by the client’s love for the Beijing Hutong areas and his entrepreneurial spirit, we aimed to create a space that embodies the traditional forms and materials of the neighborhood. The hotel’s main facade, which serves as a visible icon to the storefront, features a reversed view of a traditional Hutong house executed as a large glass facade that brings light into the lounge and lobby area. The glass front mirrors the surrounding Hutong area with its dark bricks, natural wood, and glass, creating an inviting atmosphere for guests.

The theme of the hotel, “Retrieving Memories,” aims to preserve the city’s heritage and architecture, reminding guests of its cultural significance amidst an urbanizing future. The layout, from the first floor lobby and lounge to the public areas and guest rooms on the second floor, was designed to evoke a neighborhood feel, breaking the monotony of long hallways. The use of dark bricks, natural wood, and plants creates the feeling of walking through an alley in a Hutong, intensifying the atmosphere and preserving memories of the city’s past.
